What does the cost include?
- Everything except two travel meals, lunches, and spending money! Airfare, hotels, ground transportation, breakfasts, dinners, tour guides, admission and tickets, security, bus drivers, etc. are all included in the cost.
What is the trip all about?
- Bringing history to life! Our itinerary is specifically designed for Bixby students after their 8th grade year. We focus on many of the people and events students study in their 8th grade US History class. Of course we also enjoy several tourist, shopping, and recreation activities along the way!
Who is behind the trip?
- The group leaders are Catherine Woods and Sherry Girard, an 8th grade US History teacher and 7th grade Math teacher at Bixby Middle School. While the trip is not officially sponsored by Bixby Public Schools, all of our travelers are Bixby students, teachers, and parents.
- Our travel company is EF Explore America. Click here for information about EF.
How long are you gone?
- Our travel time is 7 nights, 8 days.
Where do you go?
- Our primary destinations are Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. There is more information about our itinerary here.
When do you leave?
- We typically leave in the last week of May or first week of June. The last day of school and Memorial Day are the biggest factors that affect our departure date.
What safety measures are in place?
- Safety is our top priority. We have a great student to adult ratio, usually 2-3 students per adult. We’ve been traveling for 10 years and are always reviewing and updating our safety protocols and procedures. Here are a few specific ways we make sure everyone stays safe.
- At the airport, students check in and move through the airport with their group’s teacher/chaperone.
- At our hotels, we have security officers specifically assigned to our group on each floor we occupy. Room checks are performed by each group’s teacher/chaperone every night before bed and each morning before we start our day.
- While on tour, each chaperone has a small group of 4-8 students. Each student is required to wear a lanyard with contact information for every chaperone. Students are required to stay in small groups at all times while on tour.
What are the hotel accommodations like?
- Students are assigned 3-4 per room while adults are 1-2 per room. Families may opt to room together. Adults may upgrade to a private room for a $350 fee.
- Our hotels are nationally recognized chains. Examples of previous hotels include Hilton, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Sheraton, Double Tree, Crowne Plaza, etc.
What are the transportation arrangements?
- We fly from Tulsa to Boston. Usually we fly on American Airlines, United Airlines, or Delta Airlines. Once we arrive in Boston, our ground transportation is on comfortable, air conditioned, privately chartered buses.
